Elementary Algebra Answer 2:
2. Consider a class which has n students. In this class, t% of the students subscribe to digital TV packages. Which of the following equations represents the number of students who do NOT subscribe to any digital TV package?
F. 100(n - t)
G. (100 - t)n ÷ 100
H. (100 - t)n ´ 100
J. (1 - t)n
K. n - t
The correct answer is G.
If t% subscribe to digital TV packages, then 100% - t% do not subscribe.
Since a percentage is any given number divided by 100, the amount (rather than the percentage) is represented by this equation:
(100% - t%) ÷ 100
This equation is then multiplied by the number of students (n) in order to determine the number of students who do not subscribe to digital TV packages:
(100 - t)n ÷ 100
